Time Team?
Main Post:
I was wondering what archaeologists think of Time Team? I started off really enjoying it and still do, but the three day thing is kinda frustrating. I wonder if they are really contributing anything to the field, do they publish anything based on their exploits, do their digs ever lead to followups? Do you professionals/instructors/students have any opinion on the show?
Top Comment: They did produce site reports and archived all of their documentation at Wessex Archaeology. Most are available online, you can google them or search scribd for Wessex Archaeology. The online reports are a bit stripped, you'll get some information about the finds, like lists, trench reports, and better background on the dig. It was a tv show on a really tight schedule digging really small evaluation trenches though, so if you look at their site reports there will be differences. They did a dig at Chenies Manor, for example. In the show they found Henry VIII's bed chamber, completely reconstructed the whole site and dated it, etc. - the site report basically says "we found lots of CBM but really can't date it accurately and everything is quite inconclusive, really". At the same time the site report does show trenches that were opened with nothing in them that were edited out of the show, that kind of thing. I find the show fascinating and have watched it over and over again many times, simply because it's really cool. My favorite ones are where they mess it up - not finding a single thing where there should be a roman fort, or the Llagadwy dig, where they debunked every supposed archaeological feature as a fake. They were really quite upset about it. ...and the one where they come to the US and horrify the American archaeologists by wanting to open a big ass trench with a backhoe to find a 17th century house.
The Time Team was a great TV programme in the UK that performed televised archeological digs. They have uploaded the majority of the shows to YT, and have started a Patreon to try and begin digging again. Here is the channel and their video about their new Patreon.

Top Comment: And amazingly they were the most funded archeological team in the UK at the time. Edit from wikipedia "Robinson claims that the archaeologists involved with Time Team have published more scientific papers on excavations carried out in the programme than all British university archaeology departments over the same period and that by 2013, the programme had become the biggest funder of field archaeology in the country."
Anyone still here? I’m re-watching time team!

Hey all, just found this little sub. Would anyone wanna share their favorite episodes? Or one you find memorable? Right now I’m watching season 1 episode 4 “The Fortress in the Lake / Llangorse Lake, Powys”
I just think crannogs are really interesting to learn about; I never knew they existed before watching this show.
If anyone’s here please chime in! I would love any recommendations.

I am still here waiting to be dug up in the garden but most likely will not be found. I really liked the episode where they had all the veterans on the dig of the norman burial mound.....will have to look up to see what episode it was
has time team made more money off youtube than it did on tv

The much-loved British archaeology series Time Team returns – when and where to watch the new episodes

Top Comment: Really enjoyed the first episode. Interresting site, good use of 3D graphics and playing the same old soundtrack from the originally series was a great choice.
Some random thoughts on some random Time Team cast members...
Main Post:
Paul Blinkhorn: "Your older brother's cool firend", Paul made you smile with his love of pottery and smoker's laugh.
Helen Geake: "Your older brother's cool girlfriend", for a stretch Helen took on a huge role; she knew how to carry a scene mixing her expertise with a suave almost carefree nature.
Henry Chapman: "Your friend who can't sit still", I think Henry is stuck somewhere in spacetime filming a continual montage of him walking and GPSing.
Robin Bush: "Your ole uncle Eddy", he you sorta gave you the creeps, but you loved him anyway.
Top Comment: Helen was (and still is) one of my favourite members of Time Team. Whenever she was involved it was always very obvious to me that she has a wealth of knowledge, but also would talk about what had been found with real passion and a big smile on her (always red-cheeked haha) face - especially when talking about small finds and how they can help give us an insight into the lives of the people who lived/worked/were buried there. I always found her enthusiasm to be genuine and infectious, and I always gave/give a little "yay, Helen's in this one" cheer when she appears in an episode.
New Time Team: any good?
Main Post:
It looks like Time Team's back! Unfortunately not with Tony Robinson, and it looks like it's only on YouTube (at least based on the video description).
Has anyone seen it? Is it any good?
Top Comment: I enjoy it. The team is obviously a bit awkward or finding the right style. But that's not a big problem in my opinion.
Where is best to start??
Main Post:
Apart from "The beginning"
Where is the best season to begin the show? As ib when does it become as easy going as it is now?

I first discovered Time Team on YouTube during lockdown, a random episode had popped into my feed. Once I found their channel, I picked out a few that had interesting titles on stuff I might like. I guess it depends on what your main interest in history is, Saxon, medieval, Tudor, Roman or even Bronze/Iron age.
I ended up watching a handful of episodes, then just started from season 1 and happily binged my way through the series.
Enjoy!
